Phil Moomaw was a remarkable and honorable man who gave of himself tirelessly to people in need.  He did this  both personally within his family and community and also as a public defender for many years.

Though legally a stepfather to Doug Hall, he was truly Doug's DAD from the time Doug was 19 years old.

Phil believed in his son and he believed in his son's artistic ability.  He always made his critiques constructive and kindly.  Working in the background of Doug's life was his joy - doing such things as building beautiful wooden easels at midnight so Doug would have the best display at a distant art show that Phil would never see.  And at local shows, Phil loved to proudly watch as Doug received the limelight.

This man was versatile, a Bronze Star recipient as a Korean War Veteran, a champion fisherman, an excellent hunter and sportsman.  Phil was an excellent wood carver. He held multiple degrees in Agriculture and Law.  In the American Legion Pineville/Jane Post 392, he founded the Honor Guard believing and recognizing in the importance of honoring our veterans for their patriotism at the time of their death.
